2024-07-05 Sugababes - Iveagh Gardens, Dublin

I've been a Sugababes fan since I first heard Overload way back in 2000.  It was, and still is, a pop classic.  Over the years, I managed to catch them live a couple of times.   The first time I caught Sugababes live was way back at Creamfields 2002.  Unfortunately Siobhan had left the band by then and been replaced by Heidi, so I never got to see the original lineup.  Did it matter much at the time to me?  No, not at all, I was just their to party!  As a side note, post Sugababes, Siobhan went on to release two solo albums, Revolution in Me in 2003 and Ghosts in 2007. The next time I saw them was at Oxegen 2008, and by then Mutya had left the band and was replaced by Amelle, leaving Keisha as the only remaining original member.  It was a tad strange seeing the band with only one remaining member, but again, it was a festival and all we were looking for was a good time, which we definitely got! Another side note, just like Siobhan, Mutya went on to release her own solo work, a gr

2023-10-27 King Kong Company - Dolan's, Limerick

I had planned on going to see King Kong Company  in the Olympia Theatre earlier in this month, but it clashed with a photoshoot at charity gig and, when the charity gig is for a friend, there was only ever going to be one winner.  So, arrangements were made to head to Dolan's in Limerick to see them live over the Bank Holiday weekend. I hit the road late Friday afternoon.  Not an ideal time to travel, made even worse because it was a bank holiday weekend here in Ireland.  I made it in time though, 15 minutes before doors opened!  Happy days.  I only wish I'd made it down a bit earlier, I was starving and the food there is always superb, but alas, it wasn't to be and I starved. Support on the might was from a local band called T.A. Narrative .  How can I describe them?  Well, picture the style of Human League, the attitude of Sisters of Mercy all mixed with sweet synth pop sounds!  I really enjoyed their set and I'd love to see them live again. Then it was time for the

2023-10-13 Jack Lukeman - Lawlors Ballroom, Naas

I've mentioned before, and, if you are a regular Moat Theatre attendee, theatre manager, Celine, is going through some health battles.  So, to try and ease the financial burden, various benefit events have been happening over the last few months. Tonight's event, in Lawlors Hotel , was an art auction and the pieces went for more money than I had with me!  I walked away artless... But on a positive note, lots of money was raised!  Oh and on another positive note, Jack Lukeman played!  Here's some (not very good) photos:

2023-10-07 Féile Liam O'Flynn - Laoise Kelly and Tiernan Ó Duinnchinn & Ban Phiobaire Uilleann Chill Dara - McAuley Place, Naas

I followed my Friday night at Christy Moore in the Moat Theatre with a trip the following day to  McAuley Place , to see Ban Phiobaire Uilleann Chill Dara and then Laoise Kelly accompanied by Tiernan Ó Duinnchinn perform for  Féile Liam O'Flynn, So, first up were Ban Phiobaire Uilleann Chill Dara featuring Úna Ní Fhlatharta, Patricia Keegan, Suzanne Kelly and MaryAnn Ryan, and we were treated to some wonderful music on the uilleann pipes. The sound of one set of pipes is quite thrilling, but to have four sets all at once would make your head spin.  It sounded beautiful in this old chapel. Next up was the wonderful pairing of Laoise Kelly on harp and Tiernan Ó Duinnchinn on uilleann pipes. I'm not sure how to best describe their performance, but wow! comes to mind.  The harp and the pipes work so well together and again, the acoustics of this old chapel gave extra life to the music. If you get the chance to catch Laoise and Tiernan performing, you definitely should!
