Megashoot.ie - Donadea Forest - April 25th, 2026

I’ve photographed rock stars and pop stars. I’ve shot heartthrobs and femme fatales. But one thing I rarely find myself doing is photographing models.

Truth be told, I’m just not very comfortable telling someone how to pose—asking them to flick their hair, to pout down the lens, to hold a look that doesn’t feel like them. It feels unnatural to me.

I’m much happier hiding in the shadows, camera in hand, capturing things as they happen—real moments, real energy, unfolding on a stage.

So, knowing all that—and fully aware of my own limitations—I decided to actually do something about it.

I’d seen a few people mention Megashoot online. One post in particular caught my eye—someone I knew talking about an upcoming shoot, clearly buzzing for it. That was enough to pique my interest.

A quick message later and—fair play to them—they walked me through how it all worked and how to get signed up. Megashoot, as it turns out, is a community built around photographers and models. They organise structured shoot days, where you can book time slots and pair up with whoever you want to work with.

Shoot day came around quickly, so off I went—making sure my batteries were charged and I actually had SD cards with me. (It wouldn’t be the first time I turned up to a gig without a memory card.)

One of my bookings messaged earlier in the week to say she couldn’t make it. Another just didn’t turn up. Thankfully, my third booking was there.

With two hours suddenly free, I did what we Irish do best—started chatting. Eventually, I even worked up the courage to talk to some of the models between shoots… and managed to grab a few shots along the way.

So, how was the day?

I had an absolute blast.

The models I worked with—IevaEvelina, and Arya—were an absolute joy. They came with ideas, suggested locations, and made the whole process feel easy. What could have been a bit of a disaster turned into a genuinely fun experience.

The other photographers were just as sound—happy to share advice on settings, lighting, flashes… and plenty of banter. You don’t really get that shooting gigs; it’s just too damn loud.

So, the big question—would I go to another Megashoot event?

Absolutely.

And if you’re a model or a photographer, I’d genuinely recommend giving it a go.

Turns out, I didn’t need to change how I shoot—I just needed to trust my own approach.

Enough talk—here’s a small selection of shots from the day:

Greatest goalkeeper never to play for Ireland at any level. A failed rock star. Now I take pretty pictures of Rock n' Roll, Burlesque and Political Activism.
