2024-10-25 Zaska - The Grand Social, Dublin

I was looking over old photographs, wondering when and where I first stumbled across Max Zaska .  It turns out that it was back in 2019, at the now defunct Knockanstockan festival. Since then, I've been lucky enough to catch his show a few more times.  They're always a very upbeat affair, full of love, positivity and funky, neo soul vibes that make you want to shake your booty... Tonight, in The Grand Social , was no different.  It was an unusually warm October night, and the club was already hot and sticky before Zaska came onstage.  It wasn't long before things got even hotter as he was joined onstage by a string of guest vocalist ( Jess Kavanagh , Melina Malone , Nealo , Shiv and Rob DeBoer ), and the crowd loved every moment, as they sang and danced all night. Anyway, go catch Zaska live the next time he is in town, you'll love it! Now for some photos:

2018-06-06 Emma Langford and Sara Ryan - Bru Newbridge

Emma Langford and Sara Ryan are two of the countries finest singer songwriters and I’ve been lucky to see them play multiple times.  So when I heard they were playing together in Newbridge, sure it would have been crazy not to go!

After solo sets from both performers, Sara joined Emma on stage to end the night with a few duets.  I'd love to tell you what they were, but... Ahhh it's that long ago I can't remember.  I do remember leaving the gig with a big smile on my face!

If either Emma or Sara are performing near you, I'd recommend going, you are definitley in for a treat.

Interview with King Kong Company

Originally published 10/09/2013 on Chunk.ie So, there I was, wandering around the Electric Picnic wondering who I was going to watch next. One of the lads said he had heard good things about King Kong Company and that we should check them out, so off we headed to the Body and Soul Arena to do just that.  As I mentioned in my review of the Electric Picnic, the gig was epic.  I figured we just had to interview them here on CHUNK.ie, and here it is! First things first, congratulations on a storming gig at the Electric Picnic. It completely blew me away.  Was this your first Picnic experience? We’ve been to many Electric Picnics over the years but just as punters, and it’s always been a great festival, so it was a fantastic experience to play at its 10 year anniversary. King Kong Company is a rather interesting name for a band, where or how did you come up with it? The name is taken from the film Taxi Driver. If you look closely, Travis Bickle is wearing a badge which says King

2022-11-04 Mairead Carroll - Moat Theatre, Naas

Every now and then I have a choice of gigs to go to...  This night, I could have driven into Dublin to see Meryl Streek in the Workmans Club , or I could stay local and go see Mairead Carroll in the Moat Theatre in Naas. Well, it was a no brainer.  The weather was terrible and, well, I felt terrible too, so I figured I'd stay local. Mairead has played the Moat Theatre before, but always as support, never as the main attraction.  Tonight, would be her debut headline performance and she didn't let anyone down! I'm not quite sure how to describe here music.  It's not folk, it's not trad, it's not country or rock... It's. well, it's very light and soft and calming.  Mairead is a poet who, only relatively recently, has started putting her words to music. It's a very relaxing affair!  Her songs are very personal, and, at first listen, you might think them melancholy, but then you hear the joy and the love in them, and you start to see them for what they

2024-08-02 Tribfest - North Kildare Sports Club, Kilcock

No one, and I mean no one, goes to TribFest to be cool.  After all, it's hard to look cool dancing to the music of Joe Dolan, ABBA, Tom Jones, Cher or Queen, well, maybe Queen, but... No, people go to TribFest to party, to listen to great music and most of all, to have fun.  Fun, that's the most important part of a festival, and it was in abundance this year! The festival was a three day affair this time out and, for the first time, kicked off with a night dedicated to hard rock and metal, featuring IE/DC (AC/DC), Live Lizzy (Thin Lizzy), Whiplash (Metallica) , Guns Reloaded (Guns n' Roses), and Legendary (Bon Jovi).  Was it loud?  Yes, yes it was.  Did it rock?  Most certainly!  Were the leather clad crowd entertained?  Most definitely.  What a way to kick off TribFest! Live Lizzy Whiplash Legendary Guns Reloaded IE/DC Night two of TribFest was a much more relaxed affair with sets from Mairead Rooney (Shania Twain), The Classic Beatles (The Beatles), Will Power (Joe Dolan)
