2024-07-05 Sugababes - Iveagh Gardens, Dublin

I've been a Sugababes fan since I first heard Overload way back in 2000.  It was, and still is, a pop classic.  Over the years, I managed to catch them live a couple of times.   The first time I caught Sugababes live was way back at Creamfields 2002.  Unfortunately Siobhan had left the band by then and been replaced by Heidi, so I never got to see the original lineup.  Did it matter much at the time to me?  No, not at all, I was just their to party!  As a side note, post Sugababes, Siobhan went on to release two solo albums, Revolution in Me in 2003 and Ghosts in 2007. The next time I saw them was at Oxegen 2008, and by then Mutya had left the band and was replaced by Amelle, leaving Keisha as the only remaining original member.  It was a tad strange seeing the band with only one remaining member, but again, it was a festival and all we were looking for was a good time, which we definitely got! Another side note, just like Siobhan, Mutya went on to release her own solo work, a gr

2023-07-22 Stockton's Wing - Ballykeeffe Amphitheatre, Kilkenny

I hadn't been to Kilkenny in ages, so, when I heard that Stockton's Wing were going to be playing Ballykeeffe Amphitheatre, emails were sent and plans were made! I was looking forward to the gig for a number of reasons.  The first one being that I'd never seen Stockton's Wing perform live before.  I'd seen Mike Hanrahan   live on multiple occasions, but never the full band.  Secondly, I was going to Ballykeeffe Amphitheatre and I'd wanted to go there since I first heard of the venue. After the bad weather of the last few weeks, I was constantly checking the hourly forecast on Yr.no (Norwegian weather app). It's normally very accurate, so, when it said it would stop raining at 8:00pm that night, I believed it, but I still packed my waterproofs, just in case... I arrived at the venue, nestled in an old slate quarry twenty minutes outside Kilkenny, got set up and awaited the opening act, Burnchurch .  I knew nothing about them, but Mike had told me they were

2023-07-15 Forever Young Festival - Palmerstown House, Naas

Day Two of Forever Young Festival and everything has changed...  If you haven't read about Day 1, click here . Day two of Forever Young Festival kicked off with a message from the organisers saying that the site was closed to Saturday Day Tickets.  Unless you were already camping, there was no getting in. It had been raining all night.  Not just a bit of drizzle, but heavy incessant rain, reminiscent of the weather at Oxegen Festival in past years! Because of this, and due to health and safety concerns, the decision was taken to limit the crowd. All this bad weather meant I needed my bad weather gear! It turns out that my waterproof pants were, indeed, still waterproof, as were my boots.  My jacket though, not so much... I ended up wearing an old style plastic poncho.  It wasn't fashionable, it wasn't sexy, but it kept me dry! So, Day 2 of Forever Young kicked off with Modern Romance .  I have to be honest, I didn't remember Modern Romance, the name was familiar, but..
