Damien Dempsey - Windmill Lane, Dublin - 27th March, 2025

Every now and again, Hotpress run some small, intimate, free gigs around Dublin City.  Lasts nights show was in Windmill Lane, somewhere music lovers will know all about.  If you don't, check out this Wikipedia page for a brief history.

Last night, I got the chance to head along and see Damien Dempsey perform.  I'd not seen him play in a few years, and it's easy to forget just how good his live shows are.  Within seconds of arriving on stage with, what can only be described as a warriors spear, he reminded us!

Straight away he had the crowd singing along. Damo treated us to all the classics we all knew, and also to material from his latest album, Hold Your Joy, which the audience also loved.  It would seem, on last night's performance, that Damo can't do any wrong!

Did I mention the crowd?  Chatting with Stuart from Hotpress earlier online, he compared the atmosphere to a football match, and not a gig, and he was not wrong!  There are a lot bigger artists than Damo that would love to have even a sprinkle of the magic he possess on stage.

I figured, since I was only going as a fan, and that Hotpress would have more than enough photographers there, I wouldn't bring the Canon with the big lens...  I kinda wish I did now!  I did manage to grab a few photos with my compact Sony, and a video on my phone, so all was not lost!

Anyway, it was a magic night, that's all you need to know!  Keep an eye out over on Hotpress.com for other free gigs.

Greatest goalkeeper never to play for Ireland at any level. A failed rock star. Now I take pretty pictures of Rock n' Roll, Burlesque and Political Activism.
