It seems like there’s no end to the amount of rock bands Ireland can produce, and currently pushing for world stardom is Dublin’s finest, Gurriers. I’d heard plenty about them — the rumours of their wild gigs, the chaos of the mosh pits — and I wanted to see it for myself.
When it was announced they were playing the Spiegeltent at Áras Chill Dara as part of the Spirit of Brigid festivities, I made sure I’d be there.
So, did it live up to the hype? Absolutely. From the get-go, the crowd went wild, their energy matched at every moment by the band. It was madness, in the best possible way. Am I too old for a mosh pit? Yes. Yes, I am. Did I join in? Absolutely not. That being said, even the edges of the crowd were rocking, and I’d be lying if I said I was fine the morning after. It may, just may, have taken a day or two to recover.
It was, to put it politely, a difficult shoot. The lighting matched the energy in the room — constantly changing colour, strength, and position every second. The movement of the crowd made it almost impossible to stand still, but I think… well, I hope… I managed to capture some of that chaos.
You can make up your own mind!
