Lasair Bhríde - The Dew Drop Inn, Kill - February 1st, 2026

I'm not a musician — the furthest I ever got was playing The Spanish Lady on the tin whistle when I was 10 or 11.  Don’t get me wrong, I’ll hold my own singing a song or two, but that’s about the height of it.

So when Sandie Purcell asked me if I'd come photograph Lasair Bhríde, a show she was putting together featuring some of the finest trad musicians in the country as part of the Spirit of Brigid festivities, I obviously said yes.

The fact that I can’t play an instrument to save my life doesn’t mean I don’t love watching world-class musicians perform.

So who played on the night?  Sandie was joined by her sister Rossagh CussackAoife KellyCharlie Le BrunMichael Harrison, Janine Redmond, and Andy Meaney.

It was, as you can imagine, an incredible night of traditional Irish music, with a dash of poetry and a tune or two from elsewhere.  It was so mesmerising that at times I almost forgot I was there to do a job — and not just to watch.

The Dew Drop Inn looked fantastic.  A simple but beautifully lit stage, and the sound was superb.  This was my second show there, and I’m already looking forward to more.

Anyway — now for the photos:

Greatest goalkeeper never to play for Ireland at any level. A failed rock star. Now I take pretty pictures of Rock n' Roll, Burlesque and Political Activism.
