Janye Pomplas - DV8, Dublin - September 25th, 2026

It was five years ago, give or take a couple of weeks, when I first saw Jayne Pomplas perform.  I was in the Sugar Club to see the legendary Mik Pyro, and Jayne was opening proceedings.

Two things immediately struck me — the accent and the tattoos!

Anyway, I took some photos, then settled in to wait for Mik to perform.  If memory serves me well — and considering this is five years ago, so it might not — Jayne also joined Mik for part of his set.

All in all, it was a good night.

So, back to tonight and I'm in DV8 in Dublin for the launch of Jayne's debut album, This Is How The World Ends.  Out of the 11 tracks on the album, nine are original compositions by Jayne, with the other two being Jayne’s take on traditional tunes.

We got to hear the whole album, and, to be honest, it sounds great.  It makes you want to move, tap your foot, sway your hips, dance.  That's got to be a great sign!

So, to be brief, was it a good gig?  Definitely.
Should you buy the album?  Absolutely.

You can buy it here.  You can stream it, but why would you give money to billionaires who created nothing, when you can give it directly to the artist?

Oh, and just in case you were wondering, the accent still remains, but there's a heavy Irish influence on it, which gives her music a wonderful, warm feeling.

Support on the night was from the fantastic Whisssht.  I described them elsewhere as sounding like a trad session being led by Tricky...  Definitely a band to keep an eye on.

Anyway, now for a few photos.

Greatest goalkeeper never to play for Ireland at any level. A failed rock star. Now I take pretty pictures of Rock n' Roll, Burlesque and Political Activism.
