Oh Good Grief - The Ireland Institute - May 11th, 2024

I've known of Miss LaVelle for about 8 years...  The first time I saw her perform was at the Peacock Parlour, in Cork, back in 2016.

Since then, we've crossed paths at many shows over the years, the last time being at Stoneybanter back in February of this year.

I like to support the arts, support my friends, so when I saw she had a one woman show as part of the Dublin Gay Theatre Festival, I figured I'd buy a ticket.  I'd no idea what the show was about, but it would be entertaining, that much I was sure of.

When I arrived, I soon found out that the show dealt with death...  At times incredibly funny, at times incredibly sad, but at all times wonderful.  If you weren't there, you really missed out.  We Irish deal with death very well publicly (but maybe not so well privately...).  It's more we celebrate their lives, rather than mourn their deaths, and tonight was certainly a celebration.

I'm not sure if the show will tour at all, or whether it will appear like a one night stand elsewhere, but if it does, I'd really suggest you catch it.

Now for some photos:

Greatest goalkeeper never to play for Ireland at any level. A failed rock star. Now I take pretty pictures of Rock n' Roll, Burlesque and Political Activism.
