Halloween... When I was a child, it involved getting dressed up in a black plastic sack and wearing a cheap plastic mask. Then, you ent door to door, pub to pub, saying "penny for the pookie". Sometimes you told a joke, sometimes you sang a song, sometimes the person just gave you sweets to get rid of you. Ahh yeah, fun times.
These days, Halloween is a more commercial affair in Ireland, with club nights, parties and festivals popping up around the country.
Púca Festival is probably the best known of all the Halloween festivals, and, for the first time, they were having a burlesque night as part of the festivities. Obviously I was going to be there!
I can't remember the last time I was ever in Trim, and I definitley had never been in Brogans, but what a sweet venue it is! A decent size stage, well lit, good sound, plenty of seating, and it's own bar. Everything you could want for a show.
Pre-show, I met up with Bluebird Absurd (producer/performer) and the rest of the squad, Lotta Lungs, Gala Grey, and Kitty LeRoux. We had a quick chat. worked out what we'd do and then got ready.
The doors opened and the crowds came and came and then came some more, all dressed up to the nines. The show was a total sell out, and then some! It made for a loud, sweaty, fun filled night. The crowd loved it, the performers loved it, I loved it. I hear the Púca folf loved it too!
Right, so that's enough talk, now for some photos:
