Jess Kavanagh - Workman's Cellar, Dublin - January 18th, 2025

My first gig of 2025 and it's a good one!  I’d seen Jess Kavanagh perform on a few occasions with Zaska, but this was her debut headline show, and there were no signs of nerves!

That’s not surprising though, as Jess has been around the Irish music scene for a while now, you might remember her from her days in BARQ.

I must be honest here; I couldn’t give you a set list in my life depended on it.  What I can do though, is tell you just how funky and soulful she sounded all night long.  Jess has one of those powerful voices, that no matter the level, never sounds like shouting or whispering…  It’s just smooth.

The important questions are would I buy an album, and would I go see her live again?  That’s easy, it’s a yes to both questions.

Just a few words on the venue, the Workman’s Cellar in Dublin.  It’s a lovely venue, intimate, a nice bar and decent sound, but what it doesn’t have is decent lighting.  A spotlight or two would make all the difference to the look and feel of a show…

Anyway, on to the photos:

Greatest goalkeeper never to play for Ireland at any level. A failed rock star. Now I take pretty pictures of Rock n' Roll, Burlesque and Political Activism.
