Bren Berry - Vicar Street, Dublin - January 30th, 2025

I hadn't been to Vicar Street for a gig in ages, although tonight was not so much a gig, although there was live music, more an introduction to Bren Berry's debut solo album, In Hope Our Stars Align.

MC for the night, Tommy Tiernan, questioned and cajoled answers out of Bren about inspirations for the album, why he decided to do it, and the stories behind the songs.

Why did he do it?  Well, Brendan Tallon, his former Revelino band mate and lifelong friend, dared him to finish writing a song on his own. One song became two. Then Logic Pro was bought and, after some encouraging words from his wife, the decision was made to record an album.

The rest is history, or, in this case, In Hope Our Stars Align.

What's it sound like?  Well, I got a bit of Stone Roses, a bit of Echo & the Bunny Men, and a few other early Manchester vibes off it.  Did I enjoy it?  Oh I did indeed.  Would I buy it?  It's already in my shopping cart!

Now for some photos:

Greatest goalkeeper never to play for Ireland at any level. A failed rock star. Now I take pretty pictures of Rock n' Roll, Burlesque and Political Activism.
