The last time I saw Gemma Hayes live, was back in 2021 at the Firebirds Music Festival, where, post gig, I may have been too tongue tied to have any meaningful conversation... Anyway, I was asked if I'd like to head along to hershow in Whelan's, and I obviously said yes.
Whelans was packed, upstairs, downstairs, halls... there was barely room to breath! It seemed like everyone in Dublin wanted to see her live! Gemma treated us to a 15 song set, covering her whole career, and the crowd absolutely loved it. I'm guessing Gemma did too, as she smiling throughout the gig!
Getting to see artists like Gemma perform in venues like Whelan's is an absolute treat. They're small, intimate, sweaty affairs, you never know who you'll meet, and you feel like they are almost playing just for you.
Support on the night was from Roesy, yet another in a long list of new artists to me. I enjoyed his set as well and would recommend catching him live if you can.
Support local talent, support you local venues. If you don't, then future generations will have to suffer through AI generated music.
Now for some photos:
