I don't remember the first time I saw Mairead Carroll live, it's been a while and there have been many gigs in between, but what I do remember about the first time is how quiet, almost shy she was on stage. Well, not any more!
She took to the stage tonight, in the legendary Cobblestone Pub in the heart of Smithfield in Dublin, like a seasoned pro, full of confidence and chat. It wasn't long before her performance lured in tourists from the main bar who seemed to really enjoy Maireads mix of song, poetry and fiddle playing. It certainly got their feet tapping!
A lot of Maireads songs can deal with death, darkness, mental health, so when she closed the night off with a cover of Whitney Houstons "I Wanna Dance with Somebody", the crowd were up on their feet singing and dancing along! Great stuff!!
Mairead was joined on stage by Richard Breen on guitar and vocals and support on the night was from Taylor D, who has recently released a great single called Let Me Be. Check it out!
Anyway, time for some photos.
