Luka Bloom... There's not much to be said about this man that hasn't been said before. He is a legend of Irish music. Since starting his career supporting the incredible Planxty as a 17 year old, he has released 24 albums, with his latest, A Second Wind, released this year.
This beautifully, intimate gig in the Dew Drop Inn, was part of Féile Liam O'Flynn, and to say that tickets couldn't be found for love nor money, is no understatement. Thankfully, as the photographer for the festival, I have no such issues getting in to see incredible performances like this!
I don't really have much to say about the gig, only that it was wonderful. Tributes to both Liam O'Flynn and the recently deceased Manchán Magan, were warmly given and received. Songs flowed, stories interwoven between them... It was, as I said, just a wonderful occasion.
The opening act on the night, Sandie Purcell and Rossagh Cussack were, as always, fantastic. Highlights for me were their version of Caledonia and Weila Waile. If you've never heard Weila Waile, a very dark song, sung in avery light way... You should check it out.
Anyway, now for some photos:
